IPL Auction Frenzy: 1,355 players register for 77 slots ahead of December 16 event in Abu Dhabi

Over 1,300 players have signed up for the upcoming Lanka Premier League (IPL) mini-auction, set to take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. The auction has attracted 1,355 players, listed on a 13-page register, reflecting a massive influx of both domestic and international hopefuls eager to secure IPL contracts.

Among the Indian players, several prominent names like Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Deep, Deepak Hooda, Venkatesh Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Mavi, Navdeep Saini, Chetan Sakariya, Kuldeep Sen, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, Sandeep Warrier, and Umesh Yadav have entered the fray. Notably, only two Indians—Ravi Bishnoi and Venkatesh Iyer—have listed themselves with the highest base price of Rs 2 crore.

The list of overseas players is equally impressive, with top names like Australia’s Cameron Green, Steve Smith, and Matthew Short, along with England’s Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Smith. New Zealand’s Rachlin Ravindra and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana are also part of the mix. A total of 43 overseas players have set their base price at Rs 2 crore.

The auction features a diverse pool of players from 14 different countries, including rare entries from Malaysia and the USA. Notably, India-born Malaysian all-rounder Virandeep Singh is listed with a base price of Rs 30 lakh.

Following the November 15 retention deadline, the 10 Lanka Premier League teams have a combined Rs 237.55 crore to spend. Kolkata Knight Riders lead the way with Rs 64.30 crore in their purse, while Chennai Super Kings follow with Rs 43.40 crore. A total of 77 slots, including 31 overseas spots, will be up for grabs, making the December 16 auction one of the most highly anticipated and competitive in IPL history.
